It’s the City of Champions. The Gateway to the North. Land of Frozen Lands. Oil Town. It’s home to the fifth biggest mall in the world and North America’s biggest continuous urban green space. It’s been the backdrop for movies such as The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and (aptly enough) Snow Day. Edmonton boasts roads named after sports heroes such as Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier, as well areas named after military heroes such as Major General William Griesbach. It’s also the butt of many jokes, including the fact that it’s known for 10 months of winter and 2 months of bad sledding.
No matter your personal view on the city, it has become known as a city that will not quit, will never give up, will look to protect the rights of its citizens, will support one another in loss or victory, and will continue to carry on in the deepest of despair. Truly, this city is a city that rocks!
